Giovanni Battista Vanni (born February 21, 1599 - † July 27, 1660 in Pistoja ) was an Italian painter and etcher of the Baroque era .

biography

Giovanni Battista Vanni was born in either Florence or Pisa . He was a student of Aurelio Lomi , Jacopo da Empoli , Matteo Rosselli , Giovanni Biliverti and Alessandro Allori . He also devoted himself to architectural studies with Giulio Parigi . He lived in Rome from 1624 to 1632 and then returned to Florence after a trip to Venice .

He is best known for his etchings, including 15 plates after frescoes by Correggio in the dome of San Giovanni in Parma , one after the painting Martyrdom of Saints Placidus and Flavia , also by Correggio and one after the wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese . Around 1660 he decorated the cloister of the monastery of San Benedetto in Pistoia with frescoes on behalf of Abbot Ippolito Bracciolini .
