Giraldilla
Giraldilla is the name of an international badminton tournament that is organized as open championships by Cuba . The competition has been held annually since 2000, making it a young national badminton championship. The organizer is the national Cuban badminton association ("Federación Cubana de Badminton") belonging to the state sports federation INDER in cooperation with the continental association Badminton Pan Am .
Until 2013, the tournament was classified in the "Future Series" category of the Badminton World Federation (WBF). Since the fifteenth event in March 2014, Giraldilla has been part of the higher-quality "International Series", which means that if you win the tournament, instead of the previous 1700, 2500 points are now credited to the world rankings.
The tournament is named after the unofficial landmark of the city of Havana : "La Giraldilla" is the bronze weather vane in the form of a woman above the oldest fortress in the city, the Castillo de la Real Fuerza . Except for XIII. Giraldilla 2012 , which was held in Pinar del Río , Havana is the host city of the tournament.
The XVI. Edition took place in March 2015 in Havana. The enrollment of the participants takes place exclusively through the WBF. The players who reach at least the semi-finals will receive prize money based on ranking and currently totaling 5000 US dollars.
