The 89th Giro della Toscana 2017 was an Italian road bike race in Tuscany . The stage race took place on September 26th and 27th, 2017 . In addition, the bike race was part of the UCI Europe Tour 2017 and was classified in category 2.1 . The overall winner was the Frenchman Guillaume Martin from Wanty-Groupe Gobert .

At the beginning of the hilly first stage, four drivers led by the Austrian Maximilian Kuen (Tyrol) separated. This had a lead of a maximum of three minutes. 40 kilometers from the finish line, a group of Vincenzo Nibali (Italy / Bahrain-Merida) and Stephen Cummings (Great Britain / Dimension Data) caught up with the front runners . About 20 kilometers before the finish line, Nibali, Cummings, Frederik Backaert (Belgium / Wanty) and Egan Bernal (Colombia / Androni) were able to break away from this group . They were no longer overtaken and Cummings won the group of four sprint ahead of Bernal and Backaert. Cummings took overall lead. The beaten field followed, 12 seconds behind. There was Sonny Colbrelli (Italy / Bahrain Merida) the fastest and was stage fifth.

Shortly after the start of the second stage, a nine-strong breakaway group formed around Austrian Matthias Krizek (Tyrol), who had a lead of a maximum of 3:30 minutes. Shortly before the 8.8-kilometer final climb to Volterra , the escape group was placed. In the final, Guillaume Martin (France / Wanty) was able to pull away two kilometers from the finish and won the stage and thus the overall lead. Second stage was Giovanni Visconti (Italy / Bahrain Merida) ten seconds behind.
