Giuliano Vangi (born March 13, 1931 in Barberino di Mugello , Province of Florence ) is an Italian figurative sculptor.

Career

Vangi grew up in Florence , where he studied with Bruno Innocenti at the Accademia di Belle Arti (Florence) . From 1950 to 1959 Giuliano Vangi taught at the Instituto Statale dell'Arte in Pesaro . He stayed in Brazil for the next four years; his first solo exhibition took place in 1959 at the Ambiente gallery in São Paulo . After his return to Italy he settled in Varese and taught at the Istutito de ll'Arte in Cantù .

Vangi has lived in Pesaro since 1978 and has a studio in Fano . He works u. a. with the materials wood, marble and metal. He often combines different materials.

He was awarded the Antonio Feltrinelli Prize in 1998 and in 2002 the Japanese Praemium Imperiale Prize in the field of sculpture , which is endowed with 15 million yen (approx. 129,000 euros). This art prize with the highest endowment in the world is considered the Nobel Prize for the Arts.

In 2002 the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum opened in Mishima , Japan.

Exhibitions (selection)

Due to partnerships between the cities of Rastatt and Fano as well as the district of Rastatt and the province of Pesaro and Urbino , exhibitions were also held in Rastatt.
