Giuseppe Sommariva
Giuseppe Emilio Sommariva (born July 24, 1761 in Lodi , † March 7, 1829 in Modena ) was an Italian clergyman and bishop of Modena .
Life
He was a relative of Cardinal Giovanni Filippo Gallarati Scotti . Giuseppe Sommariva was from the June 27, 1785 University of Pavia for Doctor iuris utriusque doctorate . He was ordained a priest on December 17, 1785 and was then archpriest of Lodi Cathedral . Pope Pius VII sent him as a delegate to Cardinal Carlo Oppizzoni , Archbishop of Bologna , after he had been promoted to cardinal on March 26, 1804. In the same year Giuseppe Sommariva entered the service of the Curia and became papal house prelate . On January 25, 1817, he became a consultor to the Congregation for Indulgences .
On July 12, 1824, Giuseppe Sommariva was appointed Bishop of Modena. He was ordained bishop on July 18 of the same year by Cardinal Bishop of Frascati Francesco Saverio Castiglioni , who later became Pope Pius VIII; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Pietro Caprano , Secretary of the Congregation Propaganda Fide , and Archbishop Antonio Luigi Piatti .
Five years later Giuseppe Sommariva died at his bishopric.
