Giuseppe Lanci

Giuseppe Lanci (born May 1, 1942 in Rome , Italy ) is an Italian cameraman .

Life

Lanci received a diploma in photography at the Istituto d'Arte in Rome and also attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia , where he had the future director Marco Bellocchio as a fellow student. Until 1977, Lanci worked as an assistant to the cameramen Tonino Delli Colli (e.g. for “ Play me the song of death ” by Sergio Leone ) and Franco di Giacomo or as a simple cameraman. During this time Lanci also sporadically photographed documentaries on his own initiative.

Since 1977 he has acted as head cameraman and was responsible for the visual design of some top productions by various ambitious directors such as Bellocchio, Andrej Tarkowskij , Mauro Bolognini , Nanni Moretti , Lina Wertmüller , Margarethe von Trotta and the Taviani brothers Vittorio and Paolo . "Lanci was able to indulge in lustful splendor with his pictures as well as create symbolic, poetic, unreally beautiful dream journeys through landscapes and human faces."

In 2012, Giuseppe Lanci, who has been nominated for numerous film awards and has received several, retired from active work as a cameraman at the age of 70 and was instead appointed coordinator and tutor of the course in film photography at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in January 2014 . He also taught as professor and coordinator of the photography department at the NUCT in Cinecittà and developed film seminars for several important Italian universities.
