Giuseppe Pinto (born May 26, 1952 in Noci , metropolitan city of Bari , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See . Until 2019 he worked as Apostolic Nuncio in Chile and Croatia, among others .

Life

Giuseppe Pinto was ordained a priest on April 1, 1978, and entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in May 1984. He worked in the nunciatures of Papua New Guinea and Argentina , later in the State Relations Section within the Vatican State Secretariat.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Pandosia and apostolic nuncio in Senegal and apostolic delegate in Mauritania on December 4, 2001 . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on January 6 of the next year; Co-consecrators were Robert Sarah , secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , and Leonardo Sandri , substitute for the State Secretariat .

On February 5, 2002, he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Cape Verde and Mali . On March 5, 2002 he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Guinea-Bissau . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 6, 2007 as Apostolic Nuncio in Chile . On May 10, 2011, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines .

On July 1, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Croatia . On April 16, 2019, he resigned from the office of nuncio in Croatia.
