Dodë Gjergji (born January 16, 1963 in Stubla near Vitina , FVR Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Prizren-Pristina .

Life

Gjergji was born as the son of Pashk and Anna Gjergji in Stubla. From 1970 to 1972 he attended the elementary school in Stubla, from 1972 to 1978 the school in Bibaj / Ferizaj and from 1978 to 1982 the state and general high school Paulinium in Subotica . He studied philosophy and theology in Zagreb from 1982 to 1988.

In Zym dodë gjergji was auxiliary bishop Nike Prela for August 15, 1989 priests of the diocese of Skopje-Prizren ordained . He celebrated his first Holy Mass in the Roman Catholic Church in Uroševac . After his ordination as a priest, he was appointed his secretary by Bishop Prela. During his time as a priest in the Diocese of Skopje-Prizren, Gjergji worked on liturgical texts and also worked for the Roman Catholic publishing house Drita in Kosovo.

On February 5, 2000, Gjergji was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Albanian Diocese of Sapa . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Sapa on November 23, 2005. He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in Albania, Archbishop John Bulaitis , on January 5, 2006. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Shkodra-Pult , Angelo Massafra, OFM , and the Apostolic Administrator of Prizren, Mark Sopi .

On December 12 of the same year, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Gjergj, succeeding the late Marko Sopi, as Apostolic Administrator of Prizren.

In the dispute over Kosovo's independence, Dodë Gjergji spoke out in favor of an independent state in Kosovo as the "only option".

With the elevation of the Administratur Prizren to the diocese of Prizren-Pristina by Pope Francis , he was appointed its first diocesan bishop on September 5, 2018 .
