Zym ( Albanian  also  Zymi , Serbian Зјум Zjum ) is a village in the Kosovar municipality of Prizren .

geography

Zym is about seven kilometers northwest of the city of Prizren in the Has highlands . This highland (right bank) and the plain of Prizren (left bank) are separated from each other by the White Drin .

Neighboring localities of Zym are Krajk in the east, Gjonaj in the south, Karashëngjergj in the southwest , Romaja in the northwest and Lukinaj in the north .

After the conquest of Kosovo by the Kingdom of Serbia during the First Balkan War in 1912, the Serbian government set up a military administration on site, creating a separate municipality of Zjum , which also included the villages of Karashëngjergj and Lukinaj . The community belonged to the Srez Has of the superior Okrug Prizren . This administrative division existed until January 6, 1929, when the area became part of the newly created Vardarska banovina within the Kingdom of Yugoslavia .

In a census carried out in 1919, 61 households with a total of 574 inhabitants were recorded in the village of Zym, which were divided into 54 Catholic-Albanian households with 467 inhabitants and 7 Muslim-Albanian households with 107 inhabitants.

According to the 2011 census, Zym has 1782 inhabitants, all of whom (100%) stated to be Albanians . 1196 people (67.12%) described themselves as Catholics and 586 (32.88%) as Muslims .
