Gorozhup ( Albanian  also  Gorozhupi , Serbian Горожуп Gorožup ) is a village in the southwest of Kosovo , which belongs to the municipality of Prizren .

Gorozhup lies in the valley of the White Drin on the southern slope of the Pashtrik . Immediately to the west of the village is the border with Albania . The place is about 650  m above sea level. A. on a terrace that slopes steeply over 300 meters to the Drin in the south. The river has made a breakthrough here between the two mountains Koritnik in the south and Pashtrik in the north . In the flat, around one kilometer wide valley floor, the White Drin merges into the Fierza reservoir  . Opposite Gorozhup is the village of Vërmica on the slope of the Koritnik .

The closest villages are Milaj (on the Kosovar side) to the east and Pogaj (on the Albanian side) to the west . The locations Binaj, Tejec, Tanaj and Kërhanaj belong to Gorozhup.

history

After the conquest of Kosovo by the Kingdom of Serbia during the First Balkan War in 1912, the Serbian government set up a local military administration . A separate municipality of Gorožup was created, which also included the villages of Pllaneja , Milaj , Kishaj , Domaj and Shalqi . The community belonged to the Srez Has of the superior Okrug Prizren . This administrative division existed until January 6, 1929, when the area became part of the newly created Vardarska banovina within the Kingdom of Yugoslavia .

A census carried out in 1919 recorded 59 houses with 402 - all of them Albanian - residents in the village of Gorozhup .

population

The 2011 census showed that Gorozhup was home to 290 people. Of them, 289 were Albanians and one Bosniak.

The entire population stated to belong to Islam .
