Atmaxha ( Albanian  also  Atmaxhë or Atmagja / -ë , Serbian Атмађа Atmađa ) is a place in Kosovo that belongs to the municipality of Prizren .

geography

Atmaxha is located on the northern outskirts of Prizren . The Autostrada R 7 runs south of the village.

history

In 1844 Joseph Müller mentioned the village of Atamaźa near Prizren in his book Albania, Rumelia and the Austro-Montenegrin border . Accordingly, the place was at that time a manor (literally a villa ) of merchants from Prizren with two large farms .

After the conquest of Kosovo by the Kingdom of Serbia during the First Balkan War in 1912, the Serbian government set up a military administration on site, with Atmaxha becoming part of the newly created municipality of Vlašnja (now Vlashnja ).

population

The 2011 census found that Atmaxha lived in 1685 people. Of these, 1677 (99.53%) were Albanians , one was Serbian and no data on ethnicity are available for seven other people.

1620 (96.14%) declared themselves as Muslims , 57 (3.38%) as Catholics , one person as Orthodox and no data on religion are available for seven other people.
