The Gmina Zawoja is a rural community in the powiat Suski in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . Your seat is the village of the same name with about 6500 inhabitants.

The municipality has an area of ​​128 km². 32 percent of the municipal area is used for agriculture and 66 percent for forestry. The municipality is located twenty kilometers south of Wadowice . The Skawica is one of the waters. The main town is the seat of the Babia Góra National Park , named after the Babia Góra mountain range (1725 m).

history

On April 2, 1969, a fully occupied Antonov An-24 of the LOT collided with Mount Polica in the municipality . In 2003 and 2009 a plaque and a memorial were erected at the crash site.

From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .

The rural community (gmina wiejska) consists of the villages Zawoja and Skawica . These are divided into eight school offices (sołectwa):

  • Skawica Centrum and Skawica Sucha Góra
  • Zawoja Górna, Zawoja Centrum, Zawoja Przysłop, Zawoja Dolna, Zawoja Mosorne and Zawoja Wełcza.
