Gołkowice ( German Golkowitz ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality Godów in the powiat Wodzisławski of the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document as Golkowice in 1229 , in a papal bull by Gregory IX. for the Tyniec Abbey , which confirmed the Benedictine properties in the Orlová area .
During the period of Polish particularism , the village belonged to the Duchy of Opole-Ratibor . Together with this it fell in 1327 as a fiefdom to the Crown of Bohemia , which the Habsburgs had held since 1526 . After the death of Duke Johann II. In 1532, Golkowitz fell to Bohemia, together with his duchy . After the First Silesian War and the preliminary peace of Breslau (1742) it belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia .
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on the future political affiliation of Upper Silesia in 1921, 742 out of 906 voters voted for Poland, compared with 164 votes for Germany.
After the Polish annexation of East Upper Silesia in 1922, Gołkowice belonged to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
From 1975 to 1998 Gołkowice belonged to the Katowice Voivodeship , today the place belongs to the Silesian Voivodeship as part of Upper Silesia .

The Roman Catholic parish was established in 1985 and belongs to the Archdiocese of Katowice , Gorzyce Śląskie Dean's Office. The Lutheran Church was consecrated in 1910, but the parish was established in 1945. It belongs to the Katowice diocese .
