In 1276 the village of Gołkowice was transferred to German law by Kinga from Poland . It originally belonged to the Poor Clares in Stary Sącz . In the years 1470–1480 the village Gołkowycze had a farm and an inn.

Habsburg troops occupied the village as early as 1770 and it was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary . After the First Partition of Poland , Gołkowice became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1783, German colonists of various denominations were settled in the course of the Josephine colonization . The village of Gołkowice was divided into two parts: Gołkowice Polskie / Polish Golkowitz (today's Gołkowice Górne ) and Gołkowice Niemieckie / Deutsch Golkowitz (today's Gołkowice Dolne ). In 1900 the village Gołkowice Polskie had 442 inhabitants, of which 414 were Polish-speaking, 28 were German-speaking, 414 were Roman Catholic, and 39 other faiths (mostly Protestant).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Gołkowice Górne came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it belonged to the Generalgouvernement .
