The Gmina Stary Sącz is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Nowosądecki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city ​​of the same name with a little more than 9000 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in the Sandezer Land in the Sandezer Basin (Kotlina Sądecka). The waters include the Dunajec and Poprad rivers . It borders the city of Nowy Sącz in the northeast .
