The Goldbach is a stream in the western Nördlinger Ries in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, 11.6 km in length, which flows into the Eger from the left and southwest at the Nördlinger Aumühle .

geography

course

The Goldbach arises on the outskirts of Kirchheim am Ries- Kalkofen, which lies in front of the eastern foot of the Ipf , and runs from here east-southeast. Between the Kirchheimer Heerhof and the Langenberg it gives way to the south before the last one and thus flows around the 512.5  m above sea level. NHN high Goldberg . At the state border with Bavaria the second longest tributary Schellengraben flows from the left, on the renewed east-south-east course the brook crosses to Bavaria, reaches and flows around Baldingen on its south and south-east side, and then takes the longest course on its near and parallel north-east course from the left Goldbachgraben tributary . At the Nördlinger Aumühle it flows 11.6 km from the left and southwest into the Wörnitz tributary Eger .

Catchment area

The Goldbach has a catchment area of around 34 km². It is located in the western Nördlinger Ries as a wedge facing the mouth at the eastern tip and is bounded in the west by the catchment area of the Schneidheimer Sechta . In the north, the Birkhauser Graben competes with its tributaries, and further east towards the eastern tip to the Brühlgraben, which reaches the Eger immediately after it . In the southeast and south the watershed runs to the receiving Eger itself. The watershed is only pronounced against this and its upper inlet to the Schneidheimer Sechta. Only in the east of the Riesrand are there some woods on the heights; However, over 90% of the drained area is in the open corridor.

geology

The Goldbach arises in front of the eastern foot of the Ipf in the transition area between the Impressamergel formation of the Upper Jurassic and the Ornatenton formation of the Middle Jurassic . Soon it pervades its iron sandstone and Opalinus Clay formation . Then he reached by a meteorite impact 15 million years ago dominated landscape of the Ries where in a broad zone on the western edge initially Colorful debris masses are, which are located on each survey, the number of the old crater ring structures Ries Suevite (adjoined about the Goldberg near Riesbürg). Further towards the very flat center of the Ries basin lies the young tertiary lake sediment or loess overlying it .

The Schellengraben begins its course in a similar swelling position, here as at the origin of the Goldbach itself, small, often west-east running fault lines subdivide the subsoil into a small-scale layer of clods. The Goldbachgraben, which is developing much further to the north, is already being formed in the colorful masses of rubble.
