The Gommelberg (575 m above sea level ) is a wooded basalt cone north of Pleußen in the Upper Palatinate district of Tirschenreuth . It is part of the Lausnitzer Randberge natural area in the Fichtelgebirge .

geography

State road 2176 runs from Konnersreuth to Mitterteich to the west of the mountain and federal road 299 runs from Mitterteich to Waldsassen to the south . A chapel built in 1634 is located near the summit .

geology

A large basalt eruption area lies between Marktredwitz , Mitterteich, Konnersreuth and Seußen . It is the westernmost branch of the North Bohemian basalt volcanism. In the Miocene , liquid basalt mass came up through the granite .

economy

There are several basalt quarries in the summit region .
