Goran Simić (singer)

Goran Simić (born October 14, 1953 in Belgrade , SFR Yugoslavia ; † November 24, 2008 in Vienna , Austria ) was a Serbian opera singer ( bass ) who worked for over 20 years at the Vienna State Opera .

Life

Goran Simić studied singing at the University of Music in Belgrade and Sarajevo . He won several prizes in singing competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982 and the Pavarotti Competition in 1985 . From 1978 to 1984 he was engaged at the Sarajevo Opera.

Since the season 1984/85 he was member of the Vienna State Opera, where he held in November 1984 as a guardian of the city Die Frau ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss debuted. His repertoire included roles such as the king in Aida , Sparafucile in Rigoletto (among others in March 1989 next to Giuseppe Taddei when he parted with Rigoletto), Ferrando in Il trovatore , Pimen, Hauptmann and Nikititsch in Boris Godunow , Count Warting in Un ballo in maschera , Gremin in Eugene Onegin , Colline in La Bohème (inter alia in April 1992 with Katia Ricciarelli as Mimì), Timur in Turandot ( inter alia in February 1990, "vocal excellent" with Franco Bonisolli and Sona Ghazarian ), Commander in Don Giovanni , Titurel in Parsifal , Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia , Lord Valton in I puritani and Surin in Queen of Spades . In the 1989/90 season, Wurm took over the role of secretary in the resumption of the Luisa Miller production, where he "impressed with his vocal security and musicality that made people sit up and take notice".

From 1984 to 2008 he appeared on the stage of the Vienna State Opera 1095 times in 55 different roles. In addition to the main roles in the serious bass field, Goran Simić also took on many Comprimario roles, which he interpreted in an excellent way. Due to his acting skills, he also formed small roles, such as B. Dottore Grenvil in La Traviata , for intense character portraits.

In May 1989 he sang the role of Titurel in Parsifal at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice in several concert performances under the musical direction of Giuseppe Sinopoli . In August 1992 he made a guest appearance with the ensemble of the Berlin State Opera in the Berlin Waldbühne as König (“Re”) in Aida , where he gave his stage character “a lot of vocal authority”. In the 1993/94 season he appeared again as König in Aida at the Berlin State Opera .

As a Surin in Queen of Spades , he made his last appearance at the Haus am Ring on October 13, 2008 a few weeks before his death. Goran Simić died after a short, serious illness. His urn was initially buried on December 12, 2008 in the Vienna Central Cemetery and transferred to the Mauer Cemetery in Vienna on July 2, 2010 (group 50, number 94).
