Ernst Raimund Gottfried Aschmann (born July 18, 1884 in Wilhelmshaven ; † July 31, 1945 in Weesow, Werneuchen ) was a German diplomat who headed the press department in the Reich Foreign Ministry from 1933 to 1939.

Life

His parents Rose Henriette Dorothea geb. Behrend and Ernst Wilhelm Aschmann (born June 15, 1848 Stuhm / Westpr .; † October 29, 1910 in Charlottenburg near Berlin, rear admiral ) had him baptized Protestants. On July 4, 1913 he married Dora geb. von Siemens, daughter of Elise Görz (1850–1938) and Georg von Siemens . Their children were Ernst Georg (April 2, 1914), Gottfried (May 6, 1921), Günther (October 22, 1922) and Rose-Marie (January 23, 1925). He attended the Prinz-Heinrichs-Gymnasium and the Kaiserin Augusta-Gymnasium in Berlin-Charlottenburg, where he received his Abitur. From 1904 he studied law in Grenoble , Heidelberg , Göttingen and Berlin, on November 14th, 1908 he passed his legal traineeship , on March 27th, 1914 his assessor examination and entered the Prussian judicial service. From May 12 to August 5, 1914 he was on leave for informational employment at petroleum companies in Berlin, London and Bucharest. From August 5, 1914 to December 1918 during the First World War, he was promoted in the Prussian army, mainly in the military judicial service, to the judge-martial in Berlin. In 1918 he entered the foreign service and was attached to a foreign trade office . From 1920 to 1921 he was the legation secretary in Paris . From 1921 to 1924 he was legation secretary in the Reich Foreign Ministry in Berlin . From May 7, 1924 to May 6, 1928 he had the exequatur as consul general in Geneva and headed the consulate in Geneva, where he was appointed consul in 1926. From 1928 to 1932 he was counselor in Constantinople and Ankara .

In 1932 he became deputy and in 1933 head of the press department in the Reich Foreign Ministry . In 1932 he was appointed lecturing councilor . In 1938 he was appointed Ministerial Director and First Class Envoy . On April 20, 1939 he was with effect from 1 October 1939 in the retirement staggered, but already re-employed on 30 August 1939th From 1939 to 1940 he was temporarily employed at the embassy in The Hague . In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and appointed as a judge-martial.
