Gottfried Christian Bose (born February 18, 1619 in Leipzig ; † April 13, 1671 there ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

The son of the builder and councilor in Leipzig Caspar Bose (1577–1650) and Catharina Schreiner, the granddaughter of the Grimma superintendent Johann Schreiner (also: veal 1487–1552), had attended school first in Hof and then in Leipzig. In doing so, he developed such skills that at the age of thirteen in 1632 he was able to move to the University of Wittenberg , where Erasmus Schmidt , August Buchner , Johannes Scharff and Johann Sperling became his teachers. In 1635 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he received his baccalaureate in the same year . In 1638 he became a master of philosophy and was able to do his habilitation immediately afterwards at the university in his home town.

From that time he focused particularly on studying theology, for which he attended lectures by Heinrich Höpfner , Samuel Lange , Johann Benedikt Carpzov I , Abraham Teller and Martin Geier . In 1639 he visited Wittenberg again, where Jacob Martini , Paul Röber , Wilhelm Leyser I , Johann Hülsemann , Jakob Weller and Martin Trost became his teachers. He also pursued further studies at the University of Strasbourg with Erasmus Schmidt , Johann Georg Dorsche and Johann Konrad Danhauer .

In 1643 he traveled via Marburg , Nuremberg and Altdorf to Copenhagen as well as the Netherlands and Brabant . Returned to Wittenberg, he traveled with Hülsemann to the Thorner Religious Discussion and in 1649 became a deacon at St. Nicolaikirche in Leipzig . In 1663 he obtained a licentiate in theology in Leipzig and in 1668 was promoted to archdeacon at St. Thomas Church . In the same year he became a doctor of theology.

His marriage to Regina, the daughter of the Leipzig lawyer Wilhelm Rudolph, on September 3, 1649, resulted in two daughters, both of whom died young.
