Baron Gottfried Ernst Sigismund Holzschuher von Harrlach (born February 1, 1750 in Gotha , † June 23, 1816 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He comes from a branch of the old Nuremberg patrician family Holzschuher von Harrlach that came to Thuringia . His parents were the Duke of Saxony-Gotha Lieutenant Colonel John Sigismund Holzschuher of Harrlach (* September 2, 1706; † 20 July 1771) and his wife Christiane Theresisa, born from star Beck (25 † March 1786), daughter of Valentin Paul Stern Beck .

Military career

From July 17, 1764 Holzschuher visited the cadet house in Berlin . On February 8, 1767, he was employed as a private corporal in the von Schenckendorff infantry regiment . There he became ensign on June 6, 1770 and second lieutenant on April 17, 1776 . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession , where he was able to distinguish himself in battle near Weißkirch. On September 6, 1789, he became Premier Lieutenant , on May 31, 1790, he was transferred to the Upper War College, and on June 11, 1790, he was promoted to captain . In October 1790 he was transferred to the 1st Department of the Upper War College as an assistant, and from December 29, 1792 he received an allowance of 300 thalers. On March 6, 1793 he became a major . Holzschuher wanted to go back to the front and so he was transferred to the infantry regiment "von Puttkamer" on June 18, 1795 as a company commander . On June 2, 1802 he rose to lieutenant colonel and on May 20, 1804 colonel with a patent from June 4, 1804. In the Fourth Coalition War he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Auerstedt . Holzschuher survived and was made inactive in 1807 at half his salary. At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation on May 20, 1813 he was appointed leader of the Landsturm in the Lebus district. On March 18, 1814 he received the character of major general. He died in Potsdam on June 23, 1816.

Holzschuher married Anna Sophie Hartmann, widowed von Mark (* 1751 - 23 March 1808) in Berlin on October 12, 1786. The couple had at least one son:

  • Sigismund Christoph, 1806 Junker in Infantry Regiment No. 36, received his resignation as a lieutenant on January 31, 1808
