Gottfried Faehse

Gottfried Fähse (born August 24, 1764 in Schleesen ; † May 29, 1831 in Jüterbog ) was a German classical philologist and pedagogue .

Life

As the son of a miller, he attended the village school in Radis , then went to the city school in Graefenhainichen and attended grammar school in Zeitz for five years . In 1782 he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg , where he studied philology with Johann Friedrich Hiller and Johann Karl Zeune , history with Johann Matthias Schroeckh and theology with Karl Christian Tittmann and Franz Volkmar Reinhard .

After four years, he went as a private tutor to Hungary , where he was first introduced to Stephan of Szirmay in Nagyida later and three years with the Count Török of Szendroc Kosice found employment. After taking over a rector's position in Göllnitz in 1792 , he returned to his Saxon homeland and started studying again at the University of Leipzig .

In 1796 he acquired the academic degree of a master’s degree and completed his habilitation with the disputation de ideeis Platoni at the Leipzig Academy. After giving lectures on philosophy and pedagogy there, he took on a teaching position at the Royal Pedagogy in Halle (Saale) in 1798 , became vice rector at the grammar school in Annaberg in 1801 and became rector of the institution in 1806 . In 1809 he was appointed rector of the Francisceum in Zerbst , which he held until 1830. Fähse was the author of works on a wide variety of topics. He died on a spa trip in Jüterbog.
