Gottfried Ferdinand Buckisch (and Löwenfels) , from 1691 Knight of Buckisch and Löwenfels , (baptized January 28, 1641 in Oels , Principality of Oels , † February 19, 1699 in Mainz ) was a German legal scholar and historian .

Life

Buckisch was the son of a judge. Like his father, he turned to legal studies, which he began in 1662 at the University of Leipzig . In 1667 he moved to the University of Jena . After completing his studies, he initially worked in Protestant city administrations and held the office of councilor in Strehlen from 1670 to 1676 . In 1676 he converted to the Roman Catholic faith and became government secretary in the Principality of Brieg . There he dedicated himself with commitment to the Counter Reformation . Because of his contributions to the field of counter-reformation and because of his writings, he was in 1691 for Knight ennobled .

Buckisch became assessor and imperial councilor at the Prague Castle Office . In 1692 he came to the University of Vienna as a professor of law and history . However, he lost his professorship in 1694. He then remained active as a writer, although it is not known how he worked during this time. Shortly before his death in 1699 he received a call to a professorship at the University of Mainz .
