Gottfried Uhlig

Gottfried Uhlig (born July 22, 1928 in Burgstädt ; † November 18, 2019 ) was a German educator and professor of the history of education at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig .

Life

Gottfried Uhlig was born in Burgstädt in 1928 as the son of the commercial clerk Guido Uhlig and his wife Gertrud. On site he attended elementary school from 1935 and middle school from 1939 to 1943 before moving to the upper secondary school in Chemnitz. During the Second World War he was an air force helper in the home flak battery 210 / IV and 11/121 in 1944/45. In March 1945 he was called up for the Reich Labor Service in Dept. 3/36. After the end of the war, he attended the Burgstädt Oberschule from 1945 to 1947. After graduating from high school, he worked as a new teacher at the primary school in Taura from 1947 to 1949 . After taking his first teacher examination, he studied history and German studies from 1949 to 1952 at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Leipzig to become a teacher at elementary and secondary schools. After successfully completing his studies, he took up a position as a research assistant at the Institute for Systematic Pedagogy, Department of History of Pedagogy, which was followed by an apprenticeship in 1954 . On the subject of school political struggles in Westphalia before the revolution of 1848, with special consideration of the activities of Friedrich Harkort , he was promoted to Dr. paed. PhD . After a brief activity as a research assistant or senior assistant at the institute, he was given a lectureship for the history of pedagogy in 1959 and finally appointed as a university lecturer in 1963. In the same year he completed his habilitation on The Beginning of the Anti-Fascist-Democratic School Reform in East Germany 1945-1946 . From 1965 to 1991 he was professor for the history of education and training.
