Gotthard Bruno Schicker (born October 18, 1946 in Annaberg ; † December 2, 2017 in Annaberg-Buchholz ) was a German publicist , publisher and cultural scientist .

Life

Activities in the field of culture

Gotthard Schicker first learned the profession of confectioner . He was active in the GDR movement “Young Talents”, sang at the Eduard-von-Winterstein-Theater in Annaberg, in the Annaberg Municipal Choir and briefly directed the Tannhäuser men's choir . From 1965 he studied opera singing and in 1969 joined the Leipzig cultural ensemble of the National People's Army . From 1971 he was engaged as a singer at the theater in Annaberg , in Gera and at the Berlin Metropol-Theater .

From 1980, Schicker studied cultural and theater studies at Humboldt University . He was involved in the conversion of the Schauspielhaus on Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt to the Konzerthaus Berlin and its opening in 1984 (diploma thesis: Concept of use for the Schinkelsche Schauspielhaus Berlin as a future concert hall ). At the suggestion of the Berlin Round Table , he was elected to the City District Council for Culture in 1989 and later worked for five years as Head of Culture in Berlin.

Publishing activities in Budapest

In 1994 Schicker moved to Budapest . There he revived the traditional German-language weekly newspaper Pester Lloyd initially under the title Der Neue Pester Lloyd , worked as publisher and editor-in-chief and soon renamed the paper Pester Lloyd based on his model . In 1999 Schicker revived the Budapest Rundschau , which was closed in 1989 . It was distributed as a supplement to Pester Lloyd. From the Austria pages of Pester Lloyd, Wiener Lloyd followed in 2004 ; it appeared, among other things, as a supplement in weekly alternation with the Budapester Rundschau and the Pester Lloyd.

From September 2009, Schicker taught as a lecturer in public relations and communication sciences at the Budapest Business School . He was also a co-founder of the Deutsches Theater Budapest and a founding member of the German-speaking Lions Club "Thomas Mann" Budapest (2001).

Activities in Cologne and Annaberg (from 2001)

From July 2011 Gotthard B. Schicker lived again in Annaberg-Buchholz and worked there as a historian, journalist and lecturer. He was involved in the working group of the Annaberg-Buchholzer Heimatforscher and published the online newspaper Annaberger Wochenblatt on December 18, 2011 .

Works

Schicker wrote and published in his own media and wrote culture and art-critical texts as well as essays on personalities in the Ore Mountains. He was the author or editor of the following books in Hungary and Germany, which were initially only published under the name Gotthard Schicker :

Honors

On May 17, 2004, the Budapest University of Foreign Trade (Külkereskedelmi Főiskolai Kar) awarded him the title of titular professor in recognition of his many years of teaching in the fields of communication and media studies .
