Gottlieb Heinrich Zeller

Gottlieb Heinrich Zeller (born November 30, 1794 in Nagold , Duchy of Württemberg ; † February 12, 1864 in Nagold, Kingdom of Württemberg ) was a Württemberg pharmacist and botanist, particularly with regard to the art of healing .

Origin and family

Gottlieb Heinrich Zeller was the son of the pharmacist Christian Gottlieb Zeller from Nagold and his wife Heinrika geb. Hofacker, a daughter of the Nagold town clerk Wilhelm Friedrich Hofacker. Gottlieb Heinrich Zeller had four siblings, a sister and three brothers who did not reach adulthood.

Apprenticeship and further education in Switzerland

Heinrich Zeller completed his apprenticeship with his father in his pharmacy in Nagold and with his father's colleagues in Backnang and Heilbronn . He then acquired further specialist knowledge as a pharmacist's assistant in Stuttgart , Solothurn and Vevey . In Vevey, in the canton of Vaud , Zeller passed the pharmacy exam. After his return to Württemberg, Zeller worked for another two years in Nagold as a pharmacist's assistant in his father's pharmacy. In 1823 Gottlieb Heinrich Zeller took over his father's pharmacy in Nagold and ran it until his retirement in 1842.

One of the most important pharmacists of his time

Zeller was one of the most important pharmacists in the history of Württemberg . He dealt extensively with chemistry and botany beyond pharmacy . He published numerous publications in the "correspondence sheet of the Württemberg pharmacists' association". He played a key role in the development of the Württemberg Pharmacopoeia , a comprehensive "medicinal compendium with indications , recipes and treatises ", published in 1847. Zeller was one of the champions of a southern German pharmacists' association . 1857 Zeller for his scientific work from the University of Tübingen with the presentation of Dr. rer. nat. hc honored.

Gottlieb Heinrich Zeller married Emilie Conradi when he was 56 years old. She was the sixth daughter and the seventh child of the Stuttgart citizen and merchant Leopold Conradi and his wife Wilhelmine Auguste Luise born. Feuerlein, a daughter of the government council and secret cabinet secretary Carl Friedrich Feuerlein from Stuttgart.
