Gottlieb Johann August Brauns (born August 7, 1751 in Harburg ; † July 4, 1820 in Ratzeburg ) was the royal Danish bailiff in Ratzeburg from 1795 and previously clerk in Harburg. From 1769–72 Brauns studied in Göttingen and from 1775–1782 he was a regimental auditor in the fortress of Maó (Menorca). He was the bearer of the Dannebrog Order and on December 29, 1815 was raised to the personal nobility as a knight of the Guelph Order .

He was the son of the bailiff in Harburg and Aerzen as well as master of the chair of the Hamelin lodge "zur Eiche" Johann Gottlieb Brauns (* 1713 in Clausthal as the son of the preacher of the German court orchestra in London, Heinrich Joachim Brauns and Justine Meyenbergen ; † 1785 in Aerzen ) and Anna Dorothea Schöllermann (* 1725 in Harburg as the daughter of fortress construction commissioner Schöllermann and Maria Holste; † 1788 ibid.), Whose brother was also a Harburg clerk and then a civil servant in Wilhelmsburg . The great-uncle Caspar Brauns (* 1662 in Münder / Deister as the son of quartermaster Heinrich Bruns and Margarethe von Haus ; † 1742 in Hamburg-Altona) had already worked in the nearby Altona . In addition, his son-in-law, JLE Pluns (* 1791), who was also the son-in-law of Johann Georg Repsold and the educational mentor of Johann Hinrich Wichern , founded a training institute at Dammtor ( Rotherbaum ). One cousin was Marie Justine v. Koenemann, married Bacmeister .

The coat of arms of the family that can be traced back to Gronau / Leine since 1470 , for the first time from another great uncle, Hofrat Johann Brauns (1656–1723, guardian of the grandchildren of Börries von Münchhausen ) a. a. used on his hereditary burial in Hanover- Döhren , shows a star under Wolcken-Schildeshaupt.

Braun's first marriage was Lady Mary Louise Hamilton († 1793 in Pyrmont as the daughter of Alexander Hamilton [approx. 1728–1788] from the Scottish clan of the same name , which from 1770 to 1782 was commanding officer of St. Philip and previously a lieutenant in, among others Minden was stationed 51st Regt.
