Graefenbrück is a district of Weida in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

location

Graefenbrück lies on a hill above the Weida valley . The state road 2331 connects the district with the south-west lying Steinsdorf. To the northwest, the district is flanked by a wooded ridge, to the southeast are strips of wood that mark the edge of the valley. The corridor is located in the Thuringian Slate Mountains .

history

The first documentary mention on August 7, 1335 was in the spelling Grefenbrucke , then in 1373 Grevebrucke . Thus this place name is reminiscent of a historical bridge over the river Weida, which was related to the Greven (village school) of Graefenbrück.

The townscape corresponds to the type of a single-line street village, the farms are spread out in close succession on the road to Weida. To the north-east of the village is the former Kammergut , today it serves as an age-appropriate dormitory.

The Nattermühle (Steinsdorf 70) on the right bank of the Weida on the road to Hohenölsen is also related to the place. The two houses there on the left Weidaufer belong to Graefenbrück, the older one originally served as a railway keeper's house . The Nattermühle was a compulsory mill for Steinsdorf and Graefenbrück in the Middle Ages . During the GDR era, the Nattermühle's grinding operations were discontinued, the buildings served as a restaurant, were used for tourist purposes and at times as an FDJ holiday home. After 1990, some ethnic German families were temporarily quartered in the Nattermühle. The listed natural stone bridge on the Werdau – Mehltheuer railway line, about 300 m upstream, is worth seeing .

On July 1, 1950, Graefenbrück was incorporated into the neighboring Steinsdorf. With effect from December 31, 2013, Steinsdorf was incorporated into the city of Weida with Graefenbrück and other neighboring towns.
