Grüngräbchen ( Upper Sorbian Zelena Hrabowka ) is a district of the Schwepnitz municipality in the Bautzen district . Until its incorporation in 1996, the Platzdorf was an independent municipality.

location

Grüngräbchen is located about three kilometers north of Schwepnitz and northwest of Großgrabe , not far from the state border between Saxony and Brandenburg . Through the village flows the water line , the river flows at the northern end of the village in the Saleskbach . To the west of the community lies the largest Saxon nature reserve, the Königsbrücker Heide . The nature reserves Erlenbruch-Oberbusch Grüngräbchen and Lugteich near Grüngräbchen are located south and north of the village.

history

Local history

The first mention of the place as Hongeremsgrabov or Grabowe is recorded for the year 1225, and the manor Grüngräbchen is said to have been built during this time. The place became the Junker seat of the Margraviate of Meissen . The place name derived from the neighboring town of Großgrabe changed over the centuries from Grindiggrebichen (1528) to Grebchen (1569) and Grün Gräbichen (1658) to Grüngräbchen (1768). In 1633 all households in the village were affected by the plague . For the year 1700 a Rauchsteuer- listed Cataster 20 houses in Grüngräbchen.

In 1802 the manor Grüngräbchen was acquired by Johann Gottlieb von Wolff (? -1823), who was ennobled in the same year. He had a new Grüngräbchen Castle built on a nearby hill in 1806. He was the first owner of the manor who lived there permanently. Previous owners had it managed. The manor remained in family ownership until 1882. The castle was demolished after 1945.

Trigonometric point at the Olga height

On the plateau of the Fuchsberg, the so-called Olgahöhe, there is a second order trigonometric point, which was established in 1865 in the course of the Royal Saxon triangulation . The name Olgahöhe is reminiscent of the wife of the then owner of the Grüngräbchen manor.

The brothers Traugott Jacob Rudolf and Traugott Jacob Heinrich from the Saxon gardening dynasty Seidel bought a moor area between Grüngräbchen and Schwepnitz in 1897. From 1900, Rudolf started breeding hardy rhododendrons , which his descendants have continued to this day.

In 1993 Grüngräbchen was the first Saxon town to win a gold medal in the national competition Our village should become more beautiful .

Attractions

The rhododendron park of the nursery TJ Rud. Seidel is visited by several thousand tourists every year during its heyday. The park, in which more than 300 different rhododendron varieties can be seen, is based on the breeds of the founder TJ Rudolf Seidel and his descendants.

The former Grüngräbchen watermill is put into operation every year on German Milling Day .

The so-called Albertlinde is located at a centrally located intersection in the village . In 1891 a linden tree was planted at this point , which became a landmark of the place. The linden tree was replaced twice, in 1932 by a chestnut and in 2013 by a maple tree . In the population, however, the name Albertlinde has been retained. The maple, like the chestnut in the 1930s, was planted by the Seidel tree nursery. The decision for a maple was made because of its resistance to exhaust gases and salts.
