Graeme Aldred (born September 11, 1966 in Ferryhill , † February 22, 1987 in Newcastle upon Tyne ) was an English football player . Aldred made 44 appearances in the Football League for Darlington FC before he died in a car accident at the age of 20 in 1987.

Career

Aldred represented the Durham County's selection of students in the U-15 and U-19 age groups. After his school days he was accepted by Newcastle United as an apprentice (German trainee) and played together with Paul Gascoigne , among others , but it was not enough for Aldred to a professional contract in Newcastle. In September 1984 he joined the fourth division club Darlington and made his debut in a goalless draw against Blackpool FC . During the season Aldred played 28 league games, two-thirds of them as part of the starting line-up when Darlington was third in the table at the end of the season and was promoted to the third division .
