Granby is a small community in Grand County , Colorado, United States . It is located around 90 km northwest of Denver in the middle of the Rocky Mountains  - between the Front Range and the Never Summer Mountains . The parish was named after Granby Hillyer , a Denver prosecutor.

The city is divided around a main road ( US Highway 40 ) and residential streets off it. In addition to a city library , Granby also has several smaller restaurants with typical local cuisine. In the middle of the Rocky Mountains and next to the small town of Silver Creek and the hotel and conference facility located there, the Silver Creek Lodging, it offers a good starting point for the county's natural attractions.

history

The city, which was founded in 1904, hit international headlines on June 4, 2004 when resident Marvin John Heemeyer ran amok : With a self- armored and armed bulldozer, he destroyed 13 houses and caused damage of over seven million dollars. Special commandos and local police units tried in vain to stop the vehicle with roadblocks, tear gas, stun grenades, over 200 shots and three explosive charges. Eventually, Governor Bill Owens had to alert the National Guard and cordon off the place. Only when the vehicle was stuck in a building did the perpetrator judge himself. The police still needed more than 12 hours to rescue him from the steel casing.
