Greg Maker

Gregory "Greg" Maker (born around 1950 in Clairton , Allegheny County , Pennsylvania ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass , tuba ).

Live and act

Maker worked as a bass player in New York from the early 1970s a. a. with the Composer's Workshop Ensemble around Warren Smith (album (We've Been) Around , 1973, among others with Jack Jeffers , Howard Johnson , George Barrow , Herb Bushler and Omar Clay ), also with Lonnie Liston Smith (as electric bassist), Sam Rivers ( Crystals , 1974), Billy Harper and Chris Hinze . In the 80s he also took part in the recordings of Dave Hubbard and the World Bass Violin Ensemble ( Bassically Yours ( Black Saint ), with bassists Bob Cunningham , Brian Smith , Fred Hopkins , Phil Bowler , Rick Rozie and Rufus Reid ). From 1979 to 1987 he was also a theater musician (tuba, double bass) on Broadway in New York in the musicals Eubie !, Much Ado about Nothing, Honky Tonk Nights, Cyrano de Bergerac and Stardust . Recordings were made in 2000 with the Ken Simon Quartet ( Another Side ( CIMP ), with Jorge Sylvester , Barry Altschul ) and in 2007 with trombonist Janice Robinson . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 13 recording sessions between 1973 and 2000.
