Greg Zuerlein (* 27. December 1987 in Lincoln , Nebraska ) is an American American football poker players on the position of the Kickers . He played college football for the University of Nebraska Omaha and Missouri Western State University and is under contract with the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL). From 2012 to 2019 he played for the St. Louis / Los Angeles Rams .
High school and college
Zuerlein attended Pius X High School in Lincoln, Nebraska, which he graduated in 2006. After he had also considered playing football in college , he decided after a scholarship offer from the University of Nebraska Omaha for college football in the second-rate NCAA Division II. There he played for three years until he was sidelined in 2010 due to a hip injury. Since Omaha stopped the football program at the same time, Zuerlein moved to the also second-rate Missouri Western State University , where he set a record for Division II with 21 converted field goals in a row. He also scored two field goals from 58 yards away.
NFL
In the 2012 NFL Draft , Zuerlein was selected in the sixth round as a total of 171 players by the St. Louis Rams , replacing Josh Brown , whose contract was running out.
In the 3rd week of the 2012 season he scored a successful field goal from 56 yards away with the Chicago Bears , the longest field goal at Soldier Field to date . A week later he broke Jeff Wilkins '14-year-old franchise record for the Rams' longest field goal from 57 yards in a home win against the Seattle Seahawks with a field goal from 58 yards in the first quarter . In the third quarter he converted from 60 yards and broke the record again.
In the 2015 season , he scored against the Minnesota Vikings from 61 yards.
After his contract expired in 2015, the Rams, who moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles that season , signed him for an additional year in April 2016. After playing a rather weak season in 2015, he improved significantly in 2016 and received a three-year contract after the season.
In week 4 of the 2017 season , Zuerlein scored seven field goals in one game against the Dallas Cowboys , setting another franchise record. On December 19, 2017, he was nominated for the Pro Bowl for the first time . However, he could not take part in this because of an injury.
In the 2018 NFC Championship Game at the New Orleans Saints, Zuerlein equalized with a field goal from 48 yards shortly before the end and converted a field goal from 57 yards in overtime, which brought the Los Angeles Rams into Super Bowl LIII .
For the 2020 season , Zuerlein agreed on a three-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys .
