Georges Grente
Georges François Xavier Marie Cardinal Grente (born May 5, 1872 in Percy , France , † May 4, 1959 in Le Mans ) was Bishop of Le Mans .
Life
Georges François Xavier Marie Grente studied in Paris the subjects Law , Catholic theology and philosophy . He received on 29 June 1895, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then for eight years worked as a teacher at the minor seminary of Mortain .
From 1903 to 1916 he headed the diocesan college of Saint-Lô as rector , and from 1916 to 1918 he was superior of the Saint Paul Institute in Cherbourg .
Pope Benedict XV appointed him on January 30, 1918 Bishop of Le Mans. The episcopal ordination received Georges Grente on April 17 of that year by the archbishop of Rouen , Louis-Ernest Cardinal Dubois . Co- consecrators were the bishops Claude Bardel von Sées and Joseph Guérard von Coutances (-Avranches) .
Pope Pius XII appointed Georges Grente archbishop ad personam in March 1943 and accepted him on January 12, 1953 as a cardinal with the titular church of San Bernardo alle Terme in the college of cardinals .
As part of the partnership between his diocese and the Archdiocese of Paderborn , Grente was appointed Dome of Honor at Paderborn Cathedral in 1957 .
Georges Cardinal Grente attended the conclave of 1958 .
He died on May 4, 1959 in Le Mans and was buried in the local cathedral .
