The Grenzgraben , also Grenzbach , is a brook in the Vienna Woods between Lower Austria and Vienna . He is a feeder of the rich Liesing .

The border ditch has a length of 1355 m with a height difference of 40 m. Its catchment area is 0.4 km². The brook has its source in the wooded area of ​​the Vienna Woods and runs along the border between the Lower Austrian municipality of Breitenfurt near Vienna and the Kalksburg part of the 23rd district of Liesing . In this case, it forms an up to 10 m deep ravine . It crosses under Breitenfurter Straße and joins Reiche Liesing on the left at Zangerlestraße.

There is no risk of flooding at the border ditch. In the event of a flood of the century , neither the infrastructure nor the resident population are affected.

The channel passage for the border ditch under the Breitenfurter Straße was built in 1970.

ecology

About 200 m from its mouth, the stream runs through a small fish pond, which also serves as spawning water for common toads ( Bufo bufo ). Fire salamanders ( Salamandra salamandra ) spawn in a pond a little further upstream . Black alder , ash and alluvial forests grow along the border trench .
