Kalle Anders Berglund (born March 11, 1996 in Jämshög ) is a Swedish athlete who specializes in medium-distance runs . In 2017 he won the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

Athletic career

Kalle Berglund first appeared in the Swedish youth championships in 2012. In the hall he won bronze over 400 meters, in summer silver over 800 meters. A year later he became the Swedish U18 champion over 800 meters with a season best of 1: 53.34 minutes. In 2014 he was then able to qualify for the first time at the U20 World Championships in Eugene for international championships in which he competed over the 800-meter distance. In the final, he finished seventh in a time of 1: 47.31 minutes.

A year later, he also competed at the U20 European Championships in Eskilstuna, in his Swedish homeland, over the same distance . There, too, he reached the finals and ended up fourth. In 2016 he became Swedish champion for the first time over 1500 meters. Also in 2016 he took part in his first international adult championships at the European Championships in Amsterdam. He reached the semifinals over 800 m and ended up in 19th place. After the season he then focused on the 1500 meter run.

During the indoor competitions in early 2017, he repeatedly stayed below 3: 40.00 min over the 1500 meters. At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade, he moved into the final as second in his semifinal run, in which he then celebrated his greatest sporting success to date with the silver medal. After he stayed under 3:40 minutes outdoors in May, he was unable to confirm this time at the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz and, after finishing 6th in his semifinals, ultimately finished 13th. At the World Championships in London, he also qualified for the semifinals, where he was eliminated in 3: 40.05 min in eleventh place in his run. In 2018, he finished eleventh at both of the major events, the World Indoor Championships and the European Championships .

In 2019 he was able to significantly improve his times over 1500 meters. In the hall he initially set a new national record in 3: 36.63 minutes. At the World Championships in Doha in October, he moved into the final in fifth place in his semi-final, in which he then improved by more than three seconds to a personal best of 3: 33.70 minutes and thus finished ninth.
