Grizzly is a German punk band from Karlsruhe . Stylistically, the group assigns itself to heavy pop punk. She has been under contract with the Label Department Music since 2016 .

history

Grizzly was founded in mid-2014 by six musicians who had been influenced by bands like Sum 41 , Blink-182 , Itchy or the Donots and had already gained experience in other bands. Since some members have been trained in the areas of event technology, media design and photography, the group also designed the artwork and videos themselves in addition to the music. At the end of 2014, the band made their first appearance in the Substage in Karlsruhe. She later appeared as support for 36 Crazyfists . At the beginning of 2016, Grizzly got in touch with the Berlin label Department Musik, which made the band a contract offer. At the end of April, the record company introduces the group as a new artist. At the same time, the first video, Close At Heart , was released, in which the band deals with friendship. For the recordings, the band members traveled to their best friends to film them for the clip. Department Music released Grizzly's debut album Kidlife Crisis on May 27, 2016 . A second video release for the album followed with Never Too Late . In the summer, Grizzly signed a contract with the booking agency Extratours Konzertbüro , which has been taking care of the group's live performances ever since. Shortly afterwards, the Karlsruhe-based company appeared at the first smaller festivals and in the ProSieben show Circus HalliGalli . At Christmas, Grizzly presented a review of the year in the form of the music video I Try To Grow . In spring 2017 Grizzly released the EP Summer .

Afterwards she supported the tour of the punk rock band StaatsPunkrott as a support act. Also as part of the Kill Your Demons Tour of Emil Bulls Grizzly acted as support. At the beginning of November 2017, Department Musik announced the second album by the band Polaroids with the video Til Sunrise . She had worked on this between the two tours, so that the band only had three months to write the songs, record them in three different studios and finally master them. For each piece, the band chose its own theme, which “describes moments in life that are important in some way. “This concept is also reflected in the title Polaroids . While with digital cameras the best are selected from a large number of images, the charm of Polaroids lies in the fact that “ you press it once and what comes out is the result .” Shortly before the album was released, another extract appeared in the form of the video Firefighter . On January 19, the album Polaroids followed , which entered the German charts at number 51. At the same time as the album was released, the punk band began a ten-concert tour entitled How To Fuck Up 6 Lives At Once , where they made their first headlining appearance.

reception

Grizzly in a live performance

For the release of their debut album Kidlife Crisis , Powermetal.de placed the band between Atreyu and Story of the Year . Grizzly unleash a “ real firework of easily digestible melodies, contemporary core grooves and a few punk ricochets without standing out too much from the crowd. "According to Deepground.de, Grizzly offer" the kind of punk that A Day to Remember cultivated with their first two records. “Although it is not a very repetitive,“ thoroughly entertaining album ”, the group still does not manage to break the“ almost rusty chains of pop-punk ”. On the occasion of their EP Summer, Deepground.de complained that “ there was no development in the sound of Grizzly ”. The group “ often stands in its own way in a genre that is already stylistically stagnant. “Nevertheless, Grizzly is a band“ that knows how to write appealing songs that also work live. “Musikreviews.de compared the band to Memphis May Fire , Asking Alexandria and Blessthefall . Summer contains “ five squat tracks ”, in which “ starting with obligatory singalongs and subtle screams of anger to playful guitar melodies ” a lot happens .

The second album Polaroids received greater attention and largely positive criticism in the music media. Visions magazine managed the publication in its album of the week section. Grizzly do " the whole pop-punk repertoire ", continuing the path they started with their debut. According to the online magazine Metal.de , grizzlies on this are reminiscent of bands like Blink-182 or Itchy thanks to “ a good amount of lightness ” . The “ clean vocals ” are mixed up on Polaroids with “ sophisticated punk guitars ”. Grizzly uses " in the right dosage " for " pop elements and Sing-A-Long parts." "Tribe-Online praised the" already proven blend of punk, pop and post-hardcore of the predecessor ", which puts the band between" Blackout Problems , Itchy, Rise Against and Panic! " At The Disco “can be located. They combine “ fast rhythms, official punk guitars, thrown in shouts [and] here and there a rap part in a light and catchy way . “From the point of view of Allschools.de, Grizzly tells on their second album of a“ journey through life that probably everyone can identify with ”. Clean vocals, shouts and spoken vocals harmonize “ very well with each other ” and the “ guitar riffs are very concise throughout the album. “Album-der-Woche.de characterized the sound of the album as“ consistently thrilling and optimistic. “The band tell of the ups and downs of life with enviable ease. “With the“ mixture of pop and punk rock influences, hardness and emotionality, clean and guttural singing and recorded parts ”, she actually makes the“ self-conceived term Heavy Pop-Punk tangible. "
