StaatsPunkrott is a punk rock band from the Hohenlohe district in Baden-Württemberg that was founded in 2003 and is under contract with People Like You Records and BMG .

history

The band was founded at the end of 2003 with the aim of making German punk rock. Just six weeks after it was founded, the group recorded their first album, Reden ist… . After this was published in their own production, the band first played concerts in their home region until the punk label Nix-Gut Records noticed them in mid-2004 and they were signed there. At that time none of the band members were of legal age . The second album Ding Dong! Do you want to buy a punk band? appeared after nine months of existence on Nix-Gut Records.

StaatsPunkrott began touring all over Germany as well as Austria and Switzerland, playing live almost every weekend and performing with numerous other German punk bands such as Normahl , Fahnenflucht or Zaunpfahl .

In November 2005 the third album megalomania followed - now! , which appeared as a digipak .

In April 2006, Pimp my riot, planned as a 6-track mini-album, was released with twelve tracks and the first video clip like its predecessors on Nix-Gut. In the meantime the band was represented on over 16 samplers (as of 2009), among others Es lebe der Punk , Die deutsche Punkinvasion II and Chaos, Bier + Anarchy . Thanks to this presence, StaatsPunkrott had made a name for itself within the German punctuation scene and from then on played at several festivals.

At the beginning of 2007 the band was part of the Schlachtrufe BRD Tour - one of the biggest German punk rock tours. Then the four band members spent two weeks in Hanover to record a new EP in the Horus Studios . The record was produced by Flo V. Schwarz , who was behind the mixing desk for ZSK and Montreal . This resulted in the self-titled EP, with which the band received a recording contract with Hamburg Records . The EP was released in June 2007 on Hamburg Records / Soulfood Music . In September 2007, the Punk Package Tour 2007 was followed by a Germany tour with a special school and desertion. In December the band took part in the Nikolaus Raus Tour 2007 and ended the 2007 concert year after more than 40 concerts at renowned festivals such as Punk im Pott or X-Mas-Pogo .

In the spring of 2008, StaatsPunkrott played, in addition to his own concerts, on the tour without a name with Eisenpimmel , Rasta Knast , Fahnenflucht and Chefdenker . In mid-2008 the drummer Chris der Berg left the band. He was replaced by Seimän Edgar Fankel from the band's circle of friends. In the summer of 2008 StaatsPunkrott played with Sick of It All , Subway to Sally , Madball , The Bones , Comeback Kid and Pro-Pain on a festival tour. Then the band played with PUNK in the fall - that's our cult! Tour 2008 her first self-organized headlining tour through Germany. Here she accompanied the band BoToX on the entire tour.

From the middle of 2009 the band started a video blog on which they regularly give insights into their touring life. The blog is carried by the humor and the sometimes absurd actions of the band members. StaatsPunkrott changed its line-up for the summer 2009 festivals. The band had decided to appear as a quintet in the future, because that way they could better transport their new material live. So bassist John Lemon switched to rhythm guitar and Jänz Jensen from vocals and guitar to lead vocals. After touring with various bassists for over half a year, Fat Mörfh, former singer of the Würzburg skatepunk band Wasted Talent , was introduced as the band's new bassist and background singer in October 2009.

In January 2010, the band ran their own program on the Internet radio station Newcomer Radio under the title Loud but warmly - Die StaatsPunkrott WG . It was moderated by Jänz Jensen and Fat Mörfh.

From March 2010 on, Staatspunkrott recorded the five-week recordings for their record Phoenix Effekt in the Horus Studios in Hanover in a six-part documentary on their video blog. Then the band played again at various festivals, including a. they opened the 25th anniversary of Rock am Ring at its warm-up party in the Ringrocker club tent.

In the spring of 2011, the band toured Spain as part of the German Culture Weeks sponsored by the Goethe-Institut and the German Music Embassy Madrid & Espacio de Encuentro Hispano-Aleman . They played among others in the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid .

At the beginning of September 2011 the band released the video clip for the download single Einfach da , which was available as a free download on the homepage for a limited period of time. At the same time it became known that guitarist and founding member John Lemon has left the band because he has become a father. Since then the band has been playing as a quartet again. On October 14, 2011, the new studio album Phoenix Effekt was released on Monster Artists Entertainment / BMG Rights. The record received mostly positive feedback in various webzines; The musical development of the band and the lyrical content of the songs, which mostly deal with personal experiences (love and death), were often addressed. The single and other songs on the CD also made it into various Internet radio charts. The publication was accompanied by a tour with the BlumentoPferde through Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 2012, after the club shows in spring, the band played their most extensive festival tour to date in summer, during which they stood on open-air stages every weekend from June to September. After getting to know and like each other on tour, Peter Lorre completed the line-up favored by the band as a quartet. Oliver Sonntag (who later became a permanent guitarist of the band) also jumped in on bass in the fall after Fat Mörfh was canceled for a short time.

In 2013 the band played an extensive club tour for the 10th anniversary of the band, but took a lot of time for extensive songwriting on new pieces. On this tour, Ygor Polenta took over the position on bass. The 2013 tour final was also Mr. Feta's last show, as he was unable to continue touring on the weekend due to job-related reasons.

After playing isolated concerts and festivals in early 2014, the band recorded their seventh release from August to September. Several people were involved in the production (Olman V. Wiebke, Sascha Höhm) who had also worked with the band on the previous Phoenix Effect .

Immediately after the end of production, the band announced a variety of tour dates and presented the new material on their most extensive headlining tour to date. As part of this, the band played a headlining tour through England in February 2015, supported by the Initiative Musik and as one of the few bands with purely German-language lyrics, on which they could be seen in Birmingham, Manchester and London. After receiving offers from several major record labels earlier this year, the band signed with People Like You Records / Century Media and then announced that their new album, Nordost, would be out in August 2015. This album climbed to number 10 on the "official German metal rock charts". The first single was released at the beginning of August 2015 Here your youth dies . The video clip for the single was shot in Würzburg and Berlin. The song made it to number 11 in the "German Alternative Charts".

Style and special features

An essential feature of the band is the wide musical range, which is why StaatsPunkrott is difficult to assign to a particular genre of punk rock. Already on the first release, in addition to typical elements of punk rock ( wallpaper ) and German punk ( conclusion of a loser ), there were also titles to be assigned to ska ( Whou whou wouwou , I'm going to be a police officer ) and metal ( enemy images , the solution is so close , not yet too late ). Even pop elements and ballads ( question Ment , Before you go , give up hope never on ) could be found. For years it was an outstanding feature of the band that each member wrote songs and sang them themselves. At StaatsPunkrott there were four singers and songwriters who brought their musical preferences into the sound of the band. From 2009 the band agreed on Jänz Jensen as the only lead singer. Since then, Staatspunkrott has developed more and more in the direction of skatepunk , hardcore punk and melodic hardcore .
