The large stone grave in Langeneichstädt (also Steinkiste von Langeneichstädt ) is a Neolithic megalithic grave of the Middle German Chamber type near Langeneichstädt , a district of the municipality of Müelte (Geiseltal) in the Saale district in Saxony-Anhalt . It was discovered in 1987 during field work near the medieval Eichstädter Warte and became an outstanding megalithic object in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The grave is located about 800 m north of Langeneichstädt and a good 30 m northwest of the Eichstädter Warte and together with it on a enclosed meadow. It can be reached via a dirt road. In the vicinity, several leveled burial mounds were discovered during aerial surveys, which lie in a row with the large stone grave and may have been created in the same time period.

description

As part of the archaeological investigations, sandstone and shell limestone plates were removed. The stone grave (5.3 m long, 1.9 m wide and 1.7 m high) is dated 3600 to 2700 BC. And is to be assigned to the Salzmünder or Bernburger culture .

A 1.76 m tall menhir statue was discovered as the capstone of the chamber . It shows the representation of a dolmen goddess (female deity) and an ax motif as a status symbol. In the floor - consisting of several layers of limestone slabs - the archaeologists found pieces of jewelry made of animal teeth, copper , bones and amber .

A replica of the menhir was erected between the watchtower of the Eichstädter Warte and the burial chamber . The original is shown in the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle .

The large stone grave , together with the place where the Nebra Sky Disc was found , the Goseck circular moat , the Pommelte circular moat and the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle are a stop on the tourist route " Himmelswege ".
