The Gross Düssi (also Düssistock , advises. Piz Git ) is a 3256  m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Glarus Alps . The summit forms a striking pyramid. It is a border mountain between the Swiss cantons of Uri and Graubünden .

The Gross Düssi closes the Maderanertal to the east. To the north lies the Gross Schärhorn and the 13 km² Hüfigletscher . To the east a ridge leads over the Piz Cazarauls to the Tödi . The Oberalpstock can be found in the southwest .

Below the northwest ridge is located at 2334  m above sea level. M. the Hüfihütte , which can be used as a starting point for an ascent.

Ascent history

The Gross Düssi was first climbed in 1841 by Arnold Escher von der Linth with Gedeon Tresch over the south ridge. Difficulties in the second degree had to be overcome.

The western rib was first traversed in 1895 by Shawe and Withe together with the guide Johann-Josef Maria Tresch-Inderand.

On July 23, 1896, two unknown Englishmen with the Uri guides JJ Tresch and Fr. Truffer were successful on the north-west ridge (III degree of difficulty).

Surname

The name Düssi is derived from the Uri dialect, duss = lurk, especially when hunting . In Romansh it is also known as Piz Git and Piz Valgronda . It was also called Hüfi- or Huffistock , Dispeltaus and Dsipentüss .
