The Grosse Diamantstock ( 3162 m above sea level ) is a mountain characterized by three pronounced ridges in the Grimsel area of the Bernese Oberland .
Location and surroundings
The mountain separates the Bächlital from the Gruebental with its east ridge, at the other end of which, interrupted by the Undri Bächli-Licken (German: lower Bächlilücke), stands its opposite, the Chlyne (Klein) Diamantstock ( 2839 m above sea level ). The shorter SSW ridge leads to the Obri Bächli-Licken , where a transition to the Gauli Glacier is possible, and finally on to the Bächlistock ( 3247 m above sea level ).
Below the Diamantstock is the plateau of the Bächli Glacier , which almost completely gaps there at a good 2500 m in summer ; However, good snow conditions can be found on the ascent to the Fellenberglicken , where you can descend to the Unteraar Glacier and on to the Grimselsee .
Routes
The Diamantstock as well as the whole Bächlital, through which it is preferably climbed, are considered good climbing areas. The elongated east ridge is pure rock climbing in grade IV and is equipped with bolts at the key points; however, a few nuts and friends in different sizes do a good job.
