As a group of states which are statistical regions at NUTS-1 in Austria referred to as within the statistics division of the EU NUTS: AT are structured.

These are regions of the European Community that were created for comparative statistical purposes. The criterion here is a population between around 3 and 7 million inhabitants. On the basis of such regions, the units of the individual member states can be compared within the framework of Eurostat .
