Coordinates: 47 ° 33 ' N , 15 ° 34' E
The Hochsteiermark also Obersteiermark Ost , comprising the districts of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag and Leoben in the northern part of the Austrian federal state Steiermark .
About the name
Hochsteiermark is a tourist term for the eastern part of Upper Styria that was introduced in the later 1990s . The reason was that there is no historical landscape name for the area: In the Styrian spatial planning, the region is called Upper Styria East according to the state development program 2009 . In contrast to this, geographically speaking, Upper Styria refers to the entire northern Alpine part of Styria, and Eastern Styria only refers to the east of the southern peripheral and extra-Alpine area to different extents.

Today, Hochsteiermark operates as one of the eight Styrian tourism regions according to the Styrian Tourism Act 1992 . Of these, it is the largest in terms of area. In contrast to the Ennstal , tourism here concentrates on some traditional hotspots in the northeast, in particular the Semmering area and the Viennese local mountains , on the Hochschwab and on the Mariazellerland , while the Mürz-Furche and the Erzberg area, with their industrial tradition, are not real holiday regions. and develop their tourist offer only in recent years. Industrial culture in particular plays an important role here, for example in the Styrian Eisenwurzen Nature and Geopark and the associated Eisenstraße route , which leads to Leoben. The Salzatal focuses on nature-based adventure tourism in rafting and paddling. The Fischbach Alps are also increasingly a center of gentle tourism in the local recreation area of Graz and away from the major tourist centers. Therefore, the region is marketed as a "sleepy insider tip".
The brand is sponsored by the Hochsteiermark Tourism Regional Association based in Bruck an der Mur . This association, founded in 2003, includes 49 municipalities and 25 tourism associations .
The term Styrian Romanticism is an instrument of the Hochsteiermark Tourist Regional Association for the tourist marketing of its region . In addition to places in Upper Styria, it is also used to advertise tourist offers in neighboring Bruck an der Mur and Frauenberg ( Sankt Marein im Mürz Valley ).
