Family tree of the Guadagnini

The members of the Guadagnini family made excellent violins from the 18th century to the 20th century .

In his book The Art of Violin Playing, the violinist Carl Flesch expresses himself negatively about the "glass" sound of the Guadagnini violins, which is unsuitable for the concert hall. He maliciously dubbed them “Manufactory violins of the 17th century”. Despite this statement, great violin personalities of the 19th century gave concerts on these instruments, such as Henri Vieuxtemps , Henryk Wieniawski or Hubert Léonard . Alma Rosé , one of the directors of the Auschwitz Girls' Orchestra , played a Guadagnini violin.

Even today, the Guadagnini instruments are highly valued and played by numerous soloists, such as the violinists Zia Hynsu Shin, Melanie Michaelis , Julia Fischer , Tasmin Little , Sophia Jaffé , Lara St. John , Alissa Margulis , Vanessa-Mae , Viktoria Mullova , Sandrine Cantoreggi , Eldbjørg Hemsing , Mari Silje Samuelsen , Carolin Widmann or the violinist David Garrett and Ernst Kovacic and cellists Chang Han-na , Sol Gabetta and the cellist Kleinhapl and Thomas Beckmann .
