Guido Hertel (lawyer)

Guido Hertel (born May 16, 1903 in Berlin ; † July 26, 1963 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German lawyer and President of the Federal Audit Office .

Life

In the Second World War he took part as a reserve officer , most recently as a first lieutenant . After studying law and political science and the state examination he received his doctorate in 1924 , Dr. jur. After the assessor examination he took over a judge's office in 1925 . Shortly thereafter, Hertel joined the customs administration , where he was appointed government councilor in 1933 . During the time of the National Socialist rule he was not promoted because of "unreliability" and was not allowed to work on personnel or organizational issues.

In 1939 he was drafted into military service. From 1945 to 1948 Hertel was in Soviet captivity .

After his return he joined the financial administration of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1950, Hertel moved to the Federal Ministry of Finance , where he became head of the customs department from 1953. In 1955, Hertel took over the management of Department I in the Federal Ministry of Finance. In May 1957 he was appointed President of the Federal Audit Office and Federal Commissioner for Economic Efficiency in Administration. Hertel died on active duty in 1963. Hertel had been a member of the Catholic student associations K.St.V. Flamberg and K.St.V. Brisgovia Freiburg in KV .
