Guillaume Desbiens (born April 20, 1985 in Alma , Québec ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames .

Career

Guillaume Desbiens began his career as a hockey player with the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda , for which he was active in the Canadian junior league QMJHL from 2001 to 2005 . During this period he was selected in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft as the 116th player of the Atlanta Thrashers . In the 2005/06 season , the winger played predominantly for Atlanta's farm team Gwinnett Gladiators in the ECHL and scored 43 goals and 33 assists in a total of 82 games. In the playoffs, he failed with his team only in the final of the Kelly Cup at the Alaska Aces . He also played three games during the season for Gwinnett's cooperation partner Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League . With the Chicago Wolves he also spent most of the following two seasons and he won the Calder Cup with the team from Illinois in the 2007/08 season .

After Desbiens' contract with the Atlanta Thrashers was terminated, he signed on December 15, 2008 with the Manitoba Moose from the AHL, with whom he lost to the Hershey Bears at the end of the 2008/09 season in the playoff final of the Calder Cup . In July 2009, the Canadian was also hired as a free agent by Manitoba's cooperation partner Vancouver Canucks , for which he was occasionally used in the National Hockey League in the following two seasons , while he was otherwise on the ice as a regular for the Manitoba Moose in the AHL was standing.

On July 4, 2011 Desbiens signed a two-way contract for one year with the Calgary Flames . The winger spent his only season in the organization of the Calgary Flames with their AHL farm team Abbotsford Heat and was active there together with Joe Piskula in the role of assistant captain. After the contract expired in July 2012 Desbiens returned to the organization of the Vancouver Canucks, which provided the Canadian with a one-year contract and used with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. In July 2013 Desbiens signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche . There he was only used in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters . In 2014 he moved to Europe, where he first played in the Dornbirn EC in the Austrian ice hockey league . After one, he moved to league rivals HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , which he left after six games to join the Sheffield Steelers . With these he won the main round of the Elite Ice Hockey League in 2016 and thus the British championship . The following year he finished third in the main round with the Steelers and then won the main round of the EIHL with a 6-5 win after extra time against the Cardiff Devils . Then he ended his career.
