Count Guillaume Philibert Duhesme (born July 7, 1766 in Bourgeuf / Burgundy ; † June 20, 1815 in Genappe ) was a French Général de division .

Life

Duhesme studied law. In 1792 he was appointed Colonel by Charles-François Dumouriez in a free corps that he had formed from his own resources. In 1793, as commandant of Roermond, he held the position of Herstal, which was important for the connection with Holland . On March 18, 1793, after the defeat at Neerwinds , he burned the bridge over the Loo, then crossed the Scheldt and in the battle of Villeneuve (July 6) brought the infantry columns fleeing from the Austrians to a standstill, for which he joined the Général de brigade was promoted.

He also contributed a lot to the victory at Fleurus on July 26, 1794 and besieged Maastricht under Jean-Baptiste Kléber , whereupon he was promoted to Général de division. In response to Augereau's accusations of having tolerated various excesses of his troops, he remained unemployed from 1810 to 1814, but was then given a division under Marshal Claude-Victor Perrin. After Napoleon's first abdication he became inspector general of the infantry , went over to the same after Napoleon's return, fought at Ligny and was seriously wounded on June 18, 1815 at Waterloo .
