Guillo Espel

Guillo Espel (born July 31, 1959 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine composer and guitarist.

Espel studied music theory and guitar at the Instituto J. Brahms and took composition lessons with Manolo Juárez and Lito Valle . He also dealt with light music. ("musica popular"). From 1989 to 1992 he was Vice President of the Nueva Generación de Compositores Argentinos . He worked scientifically in the field of Argentine musical folklore and teaches composition and instrumentation at the Municipal Conservatory of Buenos Aires.

Espel has received several awards as a composer of classical music, such as the Premio Juan Carlos Paz (1996 and 1999) for chamber music, the Premio en Composición Orquestal (1995) and the Premio Nacional de Música of the Secretaría de Cultura de La Nación . As a composer of film music, he received the first prize at the Pittsburg Film Festival in 1990.The Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional premiered his Variación sobre un tema de Waldo de los Ríos for marimba and orchestra in 2000 under the direction of Javier Logioa Orbe, and in 2003 the Siluetas under the direction of Andrés Spiller Blancas for charanga and orchestra. The work Luz Que Mece Un Grillo, Y La Luna for percussion quartet and symphony orchestra was premiered in 2004 by the Orquesta Nacional Juan De Dios Filiberto under Daniel Bozzani . Internationally there were performances of his works a. a. held in many Latin American state, USA, Europe and Taiwan. In 2008 Anna Netrebko recorded La Rosa y el Sauce (after Carlos Guastavino ) with the Prague Philharmonic for Deutsche Grammophon .

As a member of the folklore group La Posta , Espel u. a. at the Teatro Colón , the Teatro Nacional Cervantes , the Teatro Presidente Alvear , the Teatro Municipal Grail. San Martín and in the Teatro Astral . Since 2003 he has led his own quartet with Alejandro Guerschberg (bandoneon), Oscar Abrieu Roca (vibraphone) and Alfredo Zuccarelli (cello), with whom he has so far recorded two CDs. In 2009 the group was nominated for the Premio Gardel . As a guitarist, arranger and producer he worked with musicians and lyricists such as Darío Volonté , Jairo , Teresa Parodi , Antonio Agri , Manolo Juárez , Eduardo Lagos , David Lebón , Oscar Cardozo Ocampo , Litto Nebbia , Susanna Moncayo , Roberto “Fats” Fernández , Bernardo Baraj , Jorge Fandermole , Domingo Cura , Hamlet Lima Quintana , Oscar Alem , Elvio Romero , Jorge Marziali , Chany Suárez , María José Albaya and Leticia Daneri together.
