Gunzendorf is a district of the town of Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate in the Bavarian district of Amberg-Sulzbach .

location

The village is in the open, just under 5 km north of Auerbach. The district road AS 43 coming from there leads through it.

history

When the Franks invaded this area in the 6th century, a leader named Gunzo or Gundelo is said to have founded the place. Gunzendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1145, when the Bamberg bishop Egilbert exchanged the Eschenfelden he had donated for the Michelfeld monastery for the Gunzenfelden estate.

In the 12th century a castle is mentioned in the immediate vicinity of today's parish church of St. Giles, which at that time served as the castle chapel. There is also talk of the local nobility of the Gunzendorfer; 1119 Marquard von Gunzendorf is mentioned in the deed of foundation for Michelfeld. From 1145 to 1400 Gunzendorf belonged to Michelfeld Monastery. From 1401 to 1426 Jörg and Ruprecht die Stören are mentioned here . From 1426 to 1668 the lords of Künsberg were wealthy, from 1668 to 1680 Christoph von Wildenstein and then until 1848 the lords of Egloffstein .

From 1946 onwards, the village formed the independent municipality of Gunzendorf together with the towns of Ohrbach , Ortlesbrunn and Steinamwasser . With the municipal reform on May 1, 1978, it was incorporated into Auerbach.
