Ranna is a district of the town of Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in Bavaria .
Geographical location
The place is located in the Pegnitz valley south of the town of Auerbach on the Franconian Alb . The state road in 2162 affected the place in the East.
The neighboring towns are:
- Mosenberg in the west on the right bank of the Pegnitz
- Oberbrand , Unterbrand and Rauhenstein in the north in the Pegnitztal (all gone)
- Sackdilling in the east, beyond a large forest land and east of the B85 is
- Lehnershof in the south on the state road 2162 in the Pegnitztal
Place name
The name Ranna goes back to the term "Rone". According to Schmeller (Bavarian Dictionary of 1877), this means “a tree trunk, especially one that has been torn out by the wind and its roots”.
history
The oldest witnesses from Ranna's history point to the Hallstatt Period and the Younger Iron Age . Between 1906 and 1908, five burial mounds were found southeast of Lehnershof .
The first documentary evidence of the area around Ranna goes back to Bishop Otto the Saint . Michelfeld Monastery was founded in 1119 . The early written sources of the area do not provide any information about the exact age of the settlement. So far there are no archaeological sources. For the first time, Ranna is named in the Bamberg Salbuch from 1320, where it says: "Twice a year, namely at Walpurgis and Michaelis , the bishop or his official in the village of Ranna should hold the forest court ."
Attractions
South of Ranna is the Catholic Chapel of St. Maria Magdalena . The plastered, three-sided closed solid building with a hipped roof and onion roof turret dates from 1743. The chapel is listed as a monument .
traffic
- Road: Ranna is close to the St 2162 and about ten kilometers east of the A9 motorway ( Plech exit ).
- Rail: The Ranna station on the Nuremberg – Cheb line , which was on the other side of the Pegnitz in neighboring Mosenberg , has been closed since 1992. Likewise, passenger traffic from Ranna to Auerbach was discontinued in 1970 and the branch line was dismantled by 1984.
